Speak to Hobsonville Point locals and you’ll hear again and again how much they love the place they call home. That’s no accident: Hobsonville Point has been designed to foster a sense of wellbeing for all its residents. Things like a 5km coastal walkway and public art trail, plenty of open green spaces to explore, and a buzzing waterfront Farmers Market and hospitality precinct work together to make a place that locals and visitors love.
The neighbourhoods that make up the wider Roskill Development, including Ōwairaka and Roskill South, boast an abundance of great schools, vibrant eateries, sports clubs, bike tracks and natural spaces. Roskill is also one of the most ethnically diverse places in Auckland. Families here are warm, welcoming and proud to share their heritage with their community. No wonder whenever you ask Roskill locals what they most love about living here, the number one answer is ‘the people’.
Just 5km from Auckland CBD, Northcote is a culturally rich neighbourhood with a famously diverse food scene. It’s already blessed with beautiful nearby beaches, green spaces and a vibrant community - and significant investment in its infrastructure and amenities is set to make it even better. Te Ara Awataha - a new leafy ‘greenway’ connecting locals to schools, playgrounds and shops is newly completed, and an exciting revitalisation of its town centre will begin in the next five years.
Close to the township of Te Kauwhata and nestled on the banks of Lake Waikare, Lakeside is just twenty minutes south of the Bombays. More than 6km of walking and cycle trails will wind their way through Lakeside's 75 hectares of dedicated reserve land. Substantial planting and a walking and cycleway connecting Lakeside with Te Kauwhata are already complete, as is a new boutique village centre, for locals to work, shop, meet and play.
Nestled between Onehunga and Ellerslie villages, close to Cornwall Park, and with a friendly and welcoming multicultural community, Oranga is a hidden gem. Its revitalisation will see upgrades to streets, parks and infrastructure. Around 1,200 new, high-quality homes are coming to Oranga, so that more people can enjoy this family-friendly neighbourhood’s central location and charming, tree-lined streets with views to Maungakiekie and the Manukau Harbour.
Mangere is a community with a lot of heart. It’s a place where people feel a deep sense of belonging, and where you’re likely to receive warm smiles and greetings on the street. Mangere is home to great schools, parks and playgrounds, recently improved cycleways and walkways, a thriving arts scene, and Te Pane-o-Mataoho (Mangere Mountain), which is undergoing major restoration. As the locals will tell you, if you love Mangere, Mangere will love you right back.
